Design-Run Model: Optimizing the Engineering Lifecycle

In a high-growth technology environment, the greatest risk to innovation isn’t a lack of talent—it’s a lack of alignment. I’ve found that when "Design" teams and "Run" teams operate in silos, the resulting friction creates technical debt and burnout. My goal with this initiative was to integrate the entire product lifecycle into a unified model, ensuring that what we build is not only innovative but also operationally resilient and scalable.

Our development teams were struggling with fragmented workflows that slowed down deployment and complicated long-term maintenance. I led the shift to a Design-Run Development Model, a strategic restructuring designed to create clear accountability from the initial business case to long-term operational support.I restructured the organization to follow a standardized "Intake to Reinforcement" pipeline. This involved establishing a formal "Business Case" phase to vet ideas with data before development began, followed by a rigorous "Implementation and Communication" plan to ensure global scalability. By treating "Supportability" as a first-class citizen during the design phase, we bridged the gap between our innovators and our operators, creating a culture of end-to-end ownership.

Quantifiable Results
Reduced Complexity and Effort: Streamlined the "Level of Effort" (LOE) required for new features by implementing standardized templates for technical requirements and risk assessments.
Faster Deployment Velocity: By integrating "Infrastructure Process Automation" early in the design cycle, we reduced the friction between development and production environments.Increased
Resource Efficiency: Implemented a "Balanced Scorecard" approach to measure agent and developer productivity, ensuring that our highest-cost resources were focused on high-value initiatives.
Improved Change Adoption: Developed a "Resistance Management Plan" and comprehensive training protocols that significantly increased the success rate of new technology rollouts across thousands of locations.

Social Proof and Validation
Organizational Alignment: "This model allowed us to move past pilot phases with confidence, knowing that we had vetted the data and planned for the human element of the change." — Internal Audit.
Operational Excellence: The Design-Run model was lauded for its ability to "Target future webforms and self-service opportunities" by leveraging real-world ticket data during the design phase.
